Abi and Aaron Rustic Wedding
at Swallows Nest Barn
How did you meet
Tinder! We both went to the same uni, we got on tinder when it was new and unknown to see what it was all about. We finally met up for the first time a few weeks later for a Dominoes, Hot Fuzz date and have spoken every day since…now 10 years later we’re married!
When and where did you get engaged?
We got engaged in September 2021. Aaron had the ring hidden in his car since the July waiting for the right moment. After travelling the NC500 in Scotland with friends, we then made a detour together to the Cairngorms. We love our walking and Aaron had plans to go up the mountain, Ben Rinnes. We got to the top of the mountain, and everyone left so it was just the two of us, Aaron asked me to take a polaroid picture of the view whilst he got on one knee and asked me to turn around. It was a complete shock and a magical moment which we toasted with a small bottle of Glenlivet.
What style/theme have you chosen for your wedding day?
We have gone for a dusty blue colour theme which is shown in the invites, signage, table decor and bridal party colours. The day is full of our favourite things and favourite people. We have nods to our calico cat, Penny with a personalised cake topper and photo props with her face. Our food is afternoon tea which is one of our favourite experiences and we love our cocktails with our favourites: His (espresso martini), Hers (passionfruit martini) and The Penny (gin garden with our cat cocktail stirrers). Lawn games and card games, which we love to play when camping.
Why did you choose your wedding venue?
We came for an open day at Swallows Nest Barn and loved it. The rustic barn, gorgeous scenery for pictures with the woods, fields and rivers. It’s an intimate venue with everything you need all in one place – you can have people sitting outside but still feel involved with the party inside with the big windows. Being us, we still viewed multiple other venues to make sure and Swallows Nest Barn stuck in our minds every time.
Top tips for other couples?
Take time for the two of you with date days, it’s easy to get wrapped up in wedding planning. Book the vendors that are most important to you early to make sure you don’t miss out – venue, photographer, music, hair & make up. The day should reflect who you are and what you love as a couple, try not to get carried away by trends you see on Pinterest or Instagram.
